Just a few dozen thru-hikers complete the 3,100 miles of the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) each year. The elevations can be grueling, but the scenery is a spectacular reward. Eight hundred miles of the trail meander through Montana, with several sections near Bozeman. For those who want a taste of the trail without a six-month commitment; shorter backpacking trips are easy to put together. Situated between sections, Bozeman is a great place to basecamp in between trips!

One of the highlights of visiting Yellowstone National Park is watching the wildlife move about in their natural setting. Spring is especially magical with newborns playing alongside their moms, giddy with new life. The park is less crowded in the spring, which makes it a nice time to leisurely make your way through. You’ll definitely see the more common animals such as bison and elk; but if you’re diligent, (and an early riser) you have a good chance of seeing bear, moose and even the elusive wolf. Stop at the local visitor center to find out where the most recent activity is taking place.

It’s been quite a winter in Bozeman! We’ve enjoyed heavy snowfall, which meant awesome alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Alas, some of those activities come to an end when the spring thaw hits. But that doesn’t mean all of the snow fun is done, you can still hang on to a bit of winter sports as you transition into spring. If you’re planning a spring vacation, it’s good to note that the snowpack may affect your activities. Don’t fret, you can still do all of your favorite things, just keep the timing in mind—and perhaps this is a good time to try something new!
